Neely is made up of two estate vineyards: historic Spring Ridge and neighboring Sausal Creek.
When the Neely family assumed stewardship of Spring Ridge Vineyard in 1995, they inherited more than a remarkable vineyard site; they inherited decades of vinous history and a responsibility to uphold its legacy.
Located along the northern edge of the Santa Cruz Mountains, Spring Ridge rises from the floor of Portola Valley toward the slopes of Windy Hill. First planted in 1980 by the Melchor family in partnership with the Varner brothers, the vineyard's original Chardonnay and Gewürztraminer vines continue to produce fruit today. Pinot Noir followed in the early 2000s, along with the estate winery, allowing fruit to move from vine to cellar within minutes.
In 2017, Neely's story expanded with the planting of Sausal Creek Vineyard on the estate's lower meadow. Complementing Spring Ridge with additional Chardonnay—as well as Grüner Veltliner, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc—Sausal Creek broadens Neely's vinous expression while remaining rooted in the same farming and stewardship philosophy.
Today, Neely continues to evolve while remaining grounded in the values that have shaped the estate for more than four decades. With winemaker Sarah Green joining the team in 2024, we look toward the future with the same purpose that has guided us from the beginning: to care for these vineyards and craft wines that faithfully reflect them for generations to come.

As an entirely estate-grown and estate-produced winery, we take all our cues in the winery from the land around us. We find beauty in every wide open field and hidden tree hollow, and are inspired daily to capture our estate in expressive, site-specific wines that reflect the history, present, and future of each vineyard block.
Our winemaking approach is at once classic and grounded, creative and inspired. There is no one technique or theory, no person or tool. There is only a shared desire to produce dynamic wines that faithfully capture this special place, as well as inspire and delight the palate.

KIRK NEELY & HOLLY MYERS

Kirk and Holly met at Brown University and settled in Portola Valley in 1983, when Kirk began his pediatric residency at Stanford University. Over the years, Kirk served on the medical school faculty and at Packard Children’s Hospital, while Holly dedicated herself to public service through local education and non-profit leadership, including organizations supporting international refugees and family planning. Together, they have brought that same spirit of service and stewardship to Neely.

OPERATIONS
Lucy oversees operations at Neely, where she guides the daily rhythm of the estate and fosters the welcoming sense of community that defines the property. Before returning to Spring Ridge, she lived in Mendocino County, organizing community and school gardens. Lucy now calls Spring Ridge home and feels grateful to live and work among the vineyards she helps care for each day.
SARAH GREEN
WINEMAKER
Sarah leads the winemaking at Neely, overseeing production from vineyard to cellar. She has spent more than a decade working with Chardonnay and Pinot Noir in Sonoma and Mendocino counties, honing her holistic and sustainable approach to farming and winemaking. Guided by a perpetual curiosity, Sarah is dedicated to crafting wines that reflect the character of Neely’s estate vineyards.
