One of Upper Picnic Block’s most notable features in the vineyard is also found in the wine – the proximity of the treeline brings a distinctive, forested quality to the aromatics: leaves, bark, resin, and dust – a woodsy feeling. The fruit here is a graceful expression of Pinot Noir – less juicy red, more delicate and almost citrus-like: blood orange, bergamot. Spice and tea background – sumac and earl grey. Quiet at first, then very compelling.
